Planning a Restaurant Menu Tablet Pilot
A simulated capstone project completed as part of the Google Project Management Certificate, focused on planning the rollout of guest-facing tablets customers could use to browse the menu, place orders and pay from their tables.
The brief
Plan the rollout before scaling it.
The project centered on introducing menu tablets in the bar areas of two Sauce & Spoon locations before considering a broader rollout. The plan needed to account for guest experience, staff training, technology integration, operational constraints and clearly defined success metrics.
My approach
Turn a broad business idea into a structured project.
I used formal PM tools to define project goals, scope, exclusions, deliverables, stakeholder needs and success metrics; work through areas of misalignment; plan evaluation; and document decisions throughout the simulated pilot.
What the pilot was designed to test
Would table-side ordering improve the restaurant experience?
The project defined success metrics around faster table turns, increased guest volume, stronger appetizer sales, higher average checks and reduced food waste, while limiting the initial rollout to two locations and keeping unrelated staffing and policy changes outside the project scope.
Reflection
“The capstone helped me connect the project work I had already been doing intuitively with formal tools for defining scope, aligning stakeholders and measuring success.”
