Re-merchandising Nuts & Dried Fruit
Redesigning a high-SKU retail section to improve product visibility, navigation, visual consistency and the customer shopping experience.
The challenge
Create order in a section with more products than space.
The section had not been re-merchandised in more than two years and lacked a clear visual flow. Frequently shopped products were difficult to access, Trek Mixes were split across the section, slower-moving items disappeared within the assortment, signage was inconsistent and several products were difficult for customers to find.
My role
Own the redesign from audit through execution.
I audited the existing section, developed the new organizational system and schematic, secured approval, coordinated art and signage requests, replaced damaged tag molding, executed the remerch and adjusted the layout as inventory and space constraints emerged.
What I managed
- 01Section auditIdentified navigation, placement, signage and flow issues.
- 02SchematicDesigned the organizational system and initial layout.
- 03StakeholdersCoordinated approval and requests with section leadership and the art team.
- 04ExecutionRebuilt the section while working around temporary stockouts and space constraints.
- 05IterationObserved customer behavior and product movement after launch to identify adjustments.
How the work connected
Audit
Identify friction points
Design
Sketch the schematic
Align
Secure approval + coordinate art
Execute
Remerch and adjust in real time
Observe
Monitor behavior + product movement
Outcome
A section customers can navigate.
After the remerch, customers began scanning the section more systematically and appeared to find products with less assistance. Post-launch observation also surfaced an opportunity to improve the placement of Trek Mix Handfuls, which some customers now overlook beneath the adjacent bars section. That feedback will inform the next iteration. Post-remerch sales results are still pending.
Reflection
“The project reinforced that even a strong initial solution should keep evolving based on customer behavior and what happens after implementation.”
